PEUGEOT LIMINAL SPACE (master's thesis project)

The Peugeot Liminal Space is a service designed to provide a convenient getaway from society, to connect with nature and oneself. With the mindset that no destination is needed, the mental journey is the end product.

Conveniently located at the heart of major cities the aircraft will depart from a dedicated transit station. For around one hour, the user will travel through a nearby nature reserve and they will experience the three stages of liminality: separation, transition, and incorporation.

Certain parts of the journey will need to be automated to ensure a safe flight. However, once arrived at the free-movement zone the user is free to navigate the vehicle wherever they prefer. >>>
The design is a personal air balloon that serves as a transformative space for users to find solace, a quiet place that interacts with the user in a calm and non-intrusive manner. >>>
Multiple layers in the design create a safe feeling inside while still keeping the connection with the outdoors. The clamp shell opening exterior can remove the barrier from the outside and let small gusts of wind in during the flight. >>>
Movement in the environment from fauna and flora is emphasized through the vehicle's interface. Tiny air outlets in the interior propel the spherical interface or the leaves in the back of the interior. Passing wind gusts, animals or moving trees can initiate a playful motion inside the vehicle. >>>
Now that the trip is coming to an end light patterns in the interior indicate the location of other users. And slowly the user will feel the connection with society. >>>
Empowered with a rested mind, the user is ready to continue their day. >>>
